Mr. Hamid Dhiya Jafar is Chairman of the Board of the Crescent Petroleum Group of Companies, headquartered in Sharjah, U.A.E. (the Middle East’s oldest private sector upstream oil and gas resource company. He is also member of the Board of Dana Gas PJSC (the Gulf Region’s only publicly-listed natural gas resource company). Aside from his core business in oil and gas, Mr. Jafar has a variety of other regional and international commercial interests including container shipping terminal operations, transport and logistics, private equity, and real estate.
Hamid Jafar is Chairman of Gulftainer Ltd., a founding shareholder of Abraaj Capital (the Middle East’s largest private equity firm), and a founding shareholder of the URUK Group engaged in the electrical contracting sector of Iraq. He was the founder of the UAE Chapters of the Young Presidents Organization and the World Presidents Organization, and is also a member of the International Chief Executives Organization.
Separately, Mr. Jafar has promoted and supported important initiatives in higher education at Cambridge University and in the Gulf, and serves as a member of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the American University of Sharjah (AUS). Mr. Jafar is also actively promoting a culture of transparency and accountability for businesses in the Gulf Region, and is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the ‘Pearl Initiative’ (www.pearlinitiative.org) founded in cooperation with the United Nations Office of Partnerships.
He is also an active supporter of many charities, particularly those in aid of handicapped and needy children, and cancer. Mr. Jafar studied at Churchill College, Cambridge University, where he obtained his Bachelor’s Engineering Degree as well as post-graduate studies in Thermodynamics & Fluid Flow in 1967, followed by a Masters Degree.
