Ayman AsfariGroup Chief Executive Officer at Petrofac
Ayman became Group Chief Executive of Petrofac Limited in January 2002. He joined the Group in 1991 to establish Petrofac International, of which he was CEO. He has more than 30 yearsвЂ™ experience in the oil and gas industry, having formerly worked as Managing Director of a major civil and mechanical construction business in Oman. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Beirut.
Ayman, graduated with a BSc in Civil Engineering in 1979 from Villanova University (Pennsylvania) and an MSc in Civil and Urban Engineering in 1980 from the University of Pennsylvania. His early career was in civil construction, initially as resident engineer for the Conser Consulting Group in Muscat, Oman and then as Managing Director for a major construction group in Oman.
In 2006 Ayman established The Asfari Foundation (www.asfarifoundation.org.uk), a UK-registered charity that funds education to young people so they can, in turn, contribute to their societies. The Foundation also supports initiatives that promote civil society and provides humanitarian relief aid.
In 2010 Ayman was heralded Ernst & Young UK Entrepreneur of the Year and, in both 2011 and 2012, he was named Oil Services Executive of the Year at the World National Oil Company Congress.
Ayman, son of a Syrian Diplomat, was born in Syria, his later childhood was spent in Turkey and what is now the Czech Republic. A naturalised British citizen, having moved to the UK in 1991, he is married to Sawsan with four sons, Adeeb, Hani, Kareem and Rayan, and lives in London.
